Export your data
Create a portable ZIP archive of the journal entries saved on your device.
Export your journal entries
DeepJournal can create a ZIP archive containing your journal entries as Markdown files. Each saved entry is exported as its own file, named with the entry date.
To export your entries:
- Open Settings in the DeepJournal desktop app.
- Select Data.
- Under Export, select Export Markdown ZIP.
- Choose where to save the archive, then select Export.
By default, the archive is named deepjournal-export-YYYY-MM-DD.zip.
What the archive includes
The export includes the body of every saved journal entry that is available on the device when you create it. The current export does not include other DeepJournal records, such as Threads, Moments, chats, or settings.
If you use sync, wait for it to finish before exporting so that entries from your other devices have time to arrive. You can still export while offline; the archive will include the entries already saved locally.
Keep your export secure
The ZIP archive contains readable Markdown files. It is not protected by your DeepJournal encryption password, so save it somewhere secure and treat it like any other copy of your private writing.
If an entry cannot be exported
DeepJournal exports the entries it can read and tells you if it skipped any unreadable entries. Try exporting again after reopening the app. If the problem continues, contact DeepJournal support and include the dates that were skipped.
