I forgot my encryption password
Use your recovery phrase to reset a lost encryption password, and understand what happens if you do not have one.
Your encryption password is separate
Your encryption password unlocks your journal. It is different from the password you use to sign in to your DeepJournal account.
Resetting your account password does not reset the encryption password or decrypt your journal.
If you saved a recovery phrase
You can reset your encryption password with the 24-word recovery phrase you saved during setup.
- On the locked-journal screen, select Use your recovery key.
- Enter all 24 words of your recovery phrase in order.
- Choose a new encryption password.
This gives you access to the same journal. It changes the encryption password that protects your key; it does not replace or erase your journal data.
Never share your recovery phrase. Anyone with the phrase can reset the encryption password and unlock the journal.
If you did not save a recovery phrase
DeepJournal cannot recover a lost encryption password or decrypt your journal without its recovery phrase. The service does not store your encryption password or plaintext recovery phrase, and support cannot reset it for you.
If you still have access to an unlocked journal on another device, create and save a recovery phrase before you lock or sign out of that device. Open Settings, select Security, then create a Recovery Phrase in the Encryption section.
To avoid this situation in the future, create a recovery phrase while your journal is unlocked and store all 24 words in a secure place you can access later. You can learn more about the protection model in End-to-end encrypted sync.
